was designed to represent the steps up to heaven in Jacob’s dream
(Genesis 28 v 10-end)
~ a story which is referred to in the account of Jesus
meeting the cynical Nathaniel
(John 1 v 43 ~ end).
The image of steps up to heaven also occurs
in the hymn written in 1841 by the actress Sarah Flower Adams
~ reputedly the hymn being played by the band on the Titanic as it sank…
